Senior Citizens to benefit from Police Officer’s charity abseil
One of Tayside’s finest, PC Mags Duffy is de-scaling the dizzy heights of Carnoustie Court Multi in Ardler in order to raise money for the charity Eighteen And Under. This fundraising abseil event is happening at 11am tomorrow (Saturday) with the assistance of Ardler Village Trust. The money raised will be used to support the development of the award winning VIP (Violence is Preventable) personal safety and abuse prevention programme for senior citizens. Some of the recent participants in the programme came from Ardler and Mags herself was involved in running the sessions. Many senior citizens live in fear of crime and some can fall prey to criminals and people who can exploit or abuse them. Some can suffer abuse and neglect at the hands of relatives and carers and some become more at risk of accident and injury indoors, or outdoors, as they grow older. Many lack up to date awareness of safety and health. Laurie Matthew, Coordinator of Eighteen And Under said, ‘The VIP Programme has been working really well with young people, and developing a senior citizens’ version is just a natural progression. The money Mags raises will help us to produce the materials we have been using in places such as Ardler and make them available to senior citizens all over the UK.
