website for abused children
Multi award winning child protection charity, Eighteen And Under launches their revamped website (www.18u.org.uk) today. Aimed at children who think they may have been abused, or are survivors of abuse, the site contains a range of useful information and support materials. As well as sections on what abuse is, and how to decide if abuse has occurred, there is information on the services of Eighteen And Under , health issues, news and a new blog spot for debate, discussion and questions from any young person who needs advice. Coordinator Laurie Matthew said, ‘It’s not always easy for young people to speak up when they are in difficulty, especially where abuse is concerned. We hope the site will be a comforting and useful starting point for anyone, aged eighteen and under, who needs advice about what to do. In addition to the site, there’s a free phone number which young people can use (0800 731 40 80) and we take referrals from schools, social work, the police and other agencies’ Eighteen And Under is an organisation which offers information and one to one support to young people, aged eighteen and under who have experienced any kind of abuse. This can range from bullying to domestic violence and sexual abuse. In addition, they have developed a number of award winning personal safety and abuse prevention programmes under the banner of VIP (Violence Is Preventable) which they are currently rolling out across the UK. More information about the VIP programme is available at www.violenceispreventable.org.uk.
